Sharḥ Tuḥfat al-Aḥrār by Muḥammad Riḍā Multānī
Sharḥ Tuḥfat al-Aḥrār by Muḥammad Riḍā Multānī is a Persian commentary on Tuḥfat al-Aḥrār, the celebrated Persian mystical and ethical poem of the great Persian poet and Sufi scholar Nūr al-Dīn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān Jāmī (d. 898 AH/1492 CE).
Tuḥfat al-Aḥrār (“The Gift of the Free/Noble”) is one of Jāmī’s major didactic works and forms part of his famous Haft Awrang (“Seven Thrones”). Written in mathnawī verse, it deals with Sufi spirituality, ethics, self-discipline, refinement of character, detachment from worldly concerns, and the relationship between the seeker and God. Its teachings are illustrated through moral anecdotes, parables and poetic reflections.
Muḥammad Riḍā Multānī’s commentary explains Jāmī’s Persian verses, clarifying difficult vocabulary, expressions, allusions and the spiritual meanings contained in the poem.
