Falāḥayn: Sharḥ-i Urdū Aghrāḍ-i Jalālayn

Falāḥayn: Sharḥ-i Urdū Aghrāḍ-i Jalālayn is a two-volume Urdu commentary on Tafsīr al-Jalālayn, compiled by Abū al-Isʿād Yūsuf Jajarwī from the Qurʾānic lessons and explanations delivered by his father, Shaykh ʿAbd al-Ghanī Jajarwī.

As the compiler explains in the introductory note, the work should not strictly be regarded as an independent composition of Shaykh ʿAbd al-Ghanī. Rather, it preserves the explanations and observations that he delivered orally while teaching Tafsīr al-Jalālayn. His son subsequently arranged this material into a systematic written commentary.

The commentary is deliberately concise and avoids lengthy discussions of detailed legal and theological questions, referring the reader to more extensive commentaries where necessary. At the same time, it incorporates a number of scholarly observations and points of investigation which, according to the compiler, are not readily found in many other commentaries.

Particular attention is given to explaining the aghrāḍ, or intended purposes and interpretive points, of Tafsīr al-Jalālayn. In places where further clarification was required, the compiler added supplementary observations of his own. These additions are explicitly distinguished from the teachings of his father so that the reader can differentiate between Shaykh ʿAbd al-Ghanī’s explanations and the compiler’s own additions.
