Mawlana Yaqub Nanotwi was the first Sadr Mudaris (Head Teacher) of Dar al-Uloom Deoband. His teachers include Shah Abd al-Ghani al-Mujaddidi and Mawlana Ahmad Ali Saharanpuri. Shaykh al-Hind Mahmud Hasan and Mawlana Ashraf Ali Thanwi are from amongst his students.

Mawlana Mamluk al-Ali was given the title Ustadh al-Kul as many Ulama studied under him. The father of Mawlana Yaqub Nanotwi and the maternal grandfather of Mawlana Khalil Ahmad Saharanpuri.

This work was the first complete biography on Mawlana Yaqub Nanotwi written ninenty-two years after he passed away.
